The Dwelling Place
Management Team

Liz Howe – Project Leader.

Clair Hunt – House Keeping.
“I’m a hairdresser. Some times things happen to folks putting them in the situation of having nowhere to live. By providing a home and little help along the way. The cycle of homelessness can be broken. What a privilege to be part of seeing someone’s life transformed.”

Andy Mahers – Treasurer
“I am a retired Solicitor. I had a 24 year legal career before being made redundant for the third time in 2005. I now teach people to drive which I love as I get to meet so many different people.

I am married to Gillian and together we have 3 grown up children. Both of our girls are married and we are grandparents to a 18 month old boy called Isaac.

Many years ago my parents bought a house for people who did not have a home of their own. Following in their footsteps we are now involved with the Dwelling Place to support people who otherwise do not have a place called home”.

Gill Mahers, Secretary
“For many years I worked for a charity that exists to support disabled and disadvantaged children in Russia and Eastern Europe, but in the last ten years I have re-trained and now teach English as a foreign language to the many people who have arrived in Basingstoke from other lands.

I have always felt I would like to help homeless people in this country, but did not really know how.  When I heard about the Dwelling Place I was happy to help in any way I could.”

Ken Golding – Health and Safety

Colin and Chris Grant
We have lived in Basingstoke, and been part of Basingstoke Community Churches, for nearly 40 years. Colin worked as a pharmaceutical engineer and Chris as a teacher, but both are now retired.

After helping at the Night Shelter this year, we wanted to do more to support the Dwelling Place and are very happy to be part of the management team.
